Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan

Esperanza Rising is a wonderful book with vivid imagery and a touching story line. I felt connected to it in a personal way due to my Mexican heritage. I enjoyed the Spanish vocabulary words that were implemented throughout the book, as well as the rich cultural contexts. This book is meant for late elementary/middle school students, however, I did not feel that it was lacking in any way. I finished it quickly and found myself immersed in Esperanza’s life. Candy Bomber by Michael O Tunnell

This is a terrific, easy read, about a man who drops chocolate for the children of Berlin. The time frame is the end of  World War II.  Berlin was in ruins.  The US air force pilot, Gail Halvorsen, wanted to bring some happiness to the children of the city.  You won’t believe what one man was able to do for this group of children.  Want to find out more about “OPERATION LITTLE VITTLES?”  Read this book.

The Magic School Bus “Lost in the Solar System” by Scholastic

  Just read this fantastic book to my nephew.  He loves the solar system so he was fascinated! Ms. Frizzle’s class gets to visit the solar system , even though the planetarium was closed.  As they started to go back to the school, they heard an amazing sound.  The bus tilted back and the rockets blasted them into the sky. What happens next………….you have to read the story.
